"Wassumkeag -- Place of Shining Sands"

Sears Island, Maine -- known to earlier inhabitants as "Wassumkeag" or place of shining sands, is the largest undeveloped island on the east coast of North America. At present the island is quiet and wild. Little but the seasons and the tides have changed in the last few years. But once again the island is in the news as groups with competing visions struggle to secure its future.
